T. E. Dikty

(June 16, 1920 - October 11, 1991)

Thaddeus Maxim Eugene “TeD” Dikty was an early SF fan who became general manager of a specialist bookselling business, and later was one of the founders of Shasta Publications. He was married to SF fan and author Julian May.

He was on the committee of Chicon II, a part of Moonstruck Press, headed the Indiana Fantasy Association and published the IFA Review as well as Fantasy Digest, and Epilogue. He was a member of First Fandom.

Dikty edited several SF anthologies during the 1940s-1960s, including the annual Best Science Fiction Stories series 1949-1954 (with E. F. Bleiler), and Dikty continued the series alone from 1955 through 1957.

Other SF anthologies were Every Boy's Book of Outer Space Stories (1960) and Great Science Fiction About Mars (1966). In 1974 he started FAX Collector’s Editions, a publishing enterprise aimed at reprinting, often in facsimile, from old magazines.

He was inducted into the First Fandom Hall of Fame in 2013.
