scientific romances
| from Fancyclopedia 1 ca. 1944 |
| The name given Wells's pioneering science-fiction stories, and the term by which scholars most often recognize s-f as literature, when they do. "romances" refers to imaginative novels such as grew up in the romantic revolt, and has no necessary connexion with love; "scientific" indicates that they were all extrapolations on contemporary science. |
