He attended the first Worldcon in 1939 and was a part of the group photograph taken at the Slan Shack that appeared in All Our Yesterdays. He was involved in an early publishing venture with Donald M. Grant and, later owned a bookstore in San Diego, became an independent comics publisher and helped co-found the San Diego Comics Con.
