Chicon 7

Chicon 7, the 2012 Worldcon and seventh in Chicago was held August 30 to September 3 2012 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. GoHs: Mike Resnick (author), Story Musgrave (astronaut), Jane Frank (agent) and Rowena Morrill (artist). FGoH: Peggy Rae Sapienza. Chairman: Dave McCarty. John Scalzi was Toastmaster. Sy Liebergot was a Special Guest.

On occasion (jokingly) referred to as Chicon 2001 (because the previous Chicon in 2000 was called Chicon 2000) and TASFIC 3 (because Chicon 2 was also known as TASFIC).

The convention's parent corporation was Chicago Worldcon Bid, which sponsored the Chicago in 2012 bid and, previously, the unsuccessful Chicago in 2008 bid. Chicon 7 was selected at Aussiecon 4 to be the 2012 Worldcon. See 2012 Site Selection results.

Among other things, the WSFS Business meeting considered a motion declaring that Yngvi is not a louse, but it failed.

Chicon 7 had three vice-chairs, Helen Montgomery, Bobbi Armbruster, and Steven H Silver. They were collectively referred to, along with Dave McCarty, as the Flying Monkees.

Chicon 7 presented a Special Committee Award to Chicago author, collector, publisher, bookseller, and editor Robert Weinberg for his service to science fiction, fantasy, and horror.
